Bird-Watchers’ Paradise

Pipeline Road: One of the World’s Premiere Bird-Watching Destinations Enjoy observing rare, exotic birds in one of the best birding spots in the Americas. During World War II, a pipeline was built to transport fuel in the event the Panama Canal was attacked. Fortunately, it was never used. The abandoned service road that was built to maintain the pipeline now provides bird enthusiasts excellent walking access to the virtually undisturbed tropical rainforest, and the more than 400 species of both forest and wetland birds that live there. The road is narrow enough to leave the tree canopy uninterrupted, so birds can be spotted in the forest as well as directly overhead. The forest is also clear of undergrowth in most places, making it possible to observe an array of species, including shy birds from the forest interior. A snack is included, and comfortable shoes are recommended for this unforgettable outing along Pipeline Road. Please note: wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. * Demanding - Physically challenging activities, including extensive walks, hiking, riding, water sports, and high altitude activities.
