Historic Capital and Old Town Exploration Explore Rønne, the capital of Bornholm, and stroll its charming streets. Nestled between them, you will find “bomb houses”—brick structures built to replace the timber buildings that were bombed in 1945. Sweden donated 300 wooden houses to help rebuild the town. Bornholm’s Scandinavian neighbor was not always its ally—in 1658, Danish freedom fighters shot and killed the island’s Swedish commander and returned the territory to the Danish king. See the memorial column as you walk the cobblestone streets of the old town, and also pass Denmark’s oldest theater.
