Knitting Traditions of Western Norway

Explore the History of Norwegian Textiles Gain insight into Norway’s knitting heritage and textile industry during visits to a knitting factory and museum. Meet your guide at the pier and board your motor coach for a scenic drive through the countryside. At the Norwegian Knitting Museum, housed in a restored 19th-century factory, learn about traditional production processes, from carding and spinning to winding and sewing, and handle examples of knitted pieces that were made here. Hear stories of the factory workers who once worked here and see the historic machines in action. After time to browse the gift shop, visit the Osterøy Museum, an open-air site that showcases life on Bergen’s islands and the customs and traditions there. You will take a short ferry ride to the isle of Osterøy, before exploring the museum’s displays that showcase living craft traditions. After your visit, return to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
