Maputo, Mozambique

Mozambique’s Charming Capital City

Get to Know Maputo Stroll the streets of Mozambique’s charming capital city. Depart from the dock and pass the city’s CFM Railway Station—one of Maputo’s architectural highlights. Designed by Alfredo Augusto de Lima, the remarkable bronze-domed structure dates back to 1910. View the statue commemorating Mozambican soldiers who died during World War I as you walk from Praça dos Trabalhadores (Workers’ Square) to Mercado Central. In this vibrant market, you can watch how the locals barter for goods and foods amid an immense diversity of colors and aromas. Continue through the city to view the Maputo Fort, a stronghold built by Portuguese colonists in 1721 that was destroyed and rebuilt many times, and Jumma Masjid, Maputo’s oldest mosque, to glimpse its elegant domes and intricate minaret. Following refreshments at a local café, return to your ship. * Demanding - Physically challenging activities, including extensive walks, hiking, riding, water sports, and high altitude activities.
