Newcastle On Foot

The Sights and Sounds of Australia’s Second Oldest City See Newcastle’s major sights during a walking exploration. Newcastle is bound by a working harbor and glorious beaches. View the Customs House Hotel, a heritage building designed in the Italianate Renaissance Revival style. What once housed the Australian Customs offices is now a bustling venue in which to relax and enjoy a meal or a drink, and watch the world go by. Take in the city’s architecture, which has been gradually changing during the past few decades and shedding its predominantly industrial past. Stroll along Watt Street, Newcastle’s oldest. Stop to view Enterprise Park, then head to the historic Convict Lumber Yard. Your guide will regale you with intriguing stories about the convict labor history in this area during your visit to the yard—one of Newcastle’s oldest settlements. Afterward, you will return to your ship. * Moderate - Walking portions may be long and somewhat challenging with occasional step-ups, stairs and inclines. Total time walking or standing normally ranges from 1.5 to 3 hours.
